Last night I went to my first Yankees game (courtesy of Noah’s spare tickets, sweet).  It was an enriching crash course in A) a sport I know very little about and B) a city I am constantly learning about.

Thing(s) I liked: the chess-like tension between players on the two teams and the geometry of play on the field — something that sports TV has never depicted for me palpably.  Really, really liked that intellectual slant to things.  Also it was naively refreshing to be saturated in blissfully hopeful Americana for a change.  In the past 8 years, it has been increasingly challenging to feel proud or excited about America, much less want to engage in any sort of song-filled national camaraderie in its celebration.

Thing(s) I did not like: the five dollar bounty placed on what were essentially two dollar midtown hot dogs.

I can officially concede that baseball is better than football — two sports that I wasn’t able to energetically consider in such a ranking before.
